9.14 IDR Trillion for Renewable Energy: IKEA Big Step


FIND TEKNO, INOVATION - IKEA, a global company and household furniture sellers from Sweden has taken a big step up for in terms of sustainability.
IKEA announced its goal to do anything to capture all of the positive impact on the environment.

The trick is to implement a strategy of investment in renewable energy, energy efficiency techniques, and reduce emissions in the supply chain.

The company will even re-designing some products to improve energy friendly behavior towards consumers.

The above efforts, IKEA obtain Sustainable Business Award 2016 from The Guardian.

The retailer planned aim to generate positive energy in four years.

Currently, IKEA produces about 53 percent of its energy from renewable sources, mainly wind and solar or solar power.

IKEA now has 314 wind turbines and has installed 700,000 solar panels in stores and distribution centers. IKEA energy production itself varies depending on the location.

IKEA in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Poland has achieved the status of zero energy by producing all the energy they need to operate.

While IKEA wind farms in Canada produce more than twice the energy used in these countries.

Inspired by the COP21 climate deal last December, IKEA invested quite a lot of money for renewable energy projects outside their own business operating costs.

IKEA promised to invest around 670 million US dollars (US) or equivalent to Rp 9.14 trillion in renewable energy projects related to international climate agreement.

The amount was added IKEA investment to 1.67 billion US dollars or more than Rp 22 trillion and 446 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp 6.09 trillion, which is used to protect people from the threat of climate change effects.
